Daisy Whitney noticed that Obama’s name is not being used as frequently as a tag as it was just a few months ago. I’m not surprised.
I wouldn’t conclude that Obama’s social media cred is waning. I suspect this just a normal function of the social media space.. While Obama is still a topic of discussion, the passions aren’t flying about now that a candidate is selected. Content publishers may have switched to other memes to boost their traffic. I expect the tagging will become more specific to controversies and issues around the administration’s policy’s than Obama himself in the coming months. For instance I’m seeing more “Rick Warren” tags this week..
There’s also an elephant in the room. Plenty of content publishers tag their media based on what they expect to be popular regardless of the actual content of the media. Obama was a hot topic from the spring through the Fall. Now publishers expect everyone to be focused on the holidays so its no surprise that Santa is a hotter topic on Twitter than Obama right now.
